Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 now has a date: the new Netflix anime premieres October 20, 2026. The premiere-date teaser is the clearest signal yet that Night City is ready for another standalone story—one built around a fresh cast rather than a continuation of David and Lucy’s arc.

CD PROJEKT RED is again working with Studio TRIGGER, with Kai Ikarashi directing, Ichigo Kanno leading character design, and Bartosz Sztybor returning as showrunner, story writer, and producer. Officially, the new 10-episode series is framed as a story of redemption and revenge.

A new Night City story

The important distinction is that Edgerunners 2 is not positioned as a direct second chapter for the original crew. It is a new 10-episode story in the same world, which gives TRIGGER and CD PROJEKT RED room to explore another side of Night City without undoing the finality of the first series.

That is the right call. The first season worked because it told a complete, painful story with real consequences. A new cast preserves that impact while letting the show return to the things that made Edgerunners special: explosive animation, brutal stakes, and a city that can swallow anyone who believes they are different.

What the teaser establishes

The footage is brief, but it sets the tone well: raw, kinetic, and much more interested in danger than nostalgia. The teaser points toward a darker corner of Night City, while the October 20 date finally gives anime fans something concrete to put on their calendars.

There is still plenty the trailer does not reveal—how the new characters fit together, how closely the story will connect to Cyberpunk 2077, and what the full emotional shape of the season will be. But the release date and the creative team are enough to make this one of the major anime releases to watch this fall.

This post is a short news reaction based on the official trailer and CD PROJEKT RED’s published series details. Interpretation and opinion are my own.
